Job Description

Anticipated Salary: $51,000-$58,000. This is an exempt position.

 

Time Off Plan: 10 days of PTO, 4 weeks of summer break, all teacher/counselor holidays

 

The Bilingual Family Engagement Coordinator provides a range of school-wide services to students and their families to help set the right tone for their academic success in the virtual school program. The position serves across various groups to provide critical training, facilitate engagement, and promote effective communication practices between parents, teachers and support staff.

  • Manages Strong Start process for new students and Learning Coaches requiring Spanish communication

  • Facilitates Strong Start orientation sessions;

  • Tracks invitations, engagement and communication with the student to increase attendance and understanding of the Strong Start components;

  • Documents the Strong Start process within the school and in the school handbook

  • Oversees weekly office hours/help sessions to support new families through the Strong Start process;

  • Serves as a liaison between the student, Learning Coach and teachers to ensure that all school personnel understand how to contact and communicate with the student in a manner that builds ties between the student and the school;

  • Develops and/or facilitates Learning Coach education programs and Learning Coach training in partnership with K12 national programming to effectively support the academic achievement of students;

  • Provides online parent enrichment training/development in skills such as goal-setting, portfolios, learning styles, working with multiple children, technology skills, creating and maintaining a schedule, time management, getting back on track, test taking, etc.

  • Works with stakeholders (families, board members, administrators, and school staff) to foster community involvement in school community development (Learning Coach Mentor program, Learning Coach University, Parent Volunteers, etc.);

  • Supports the state and local standardized testing processes and policies, with a focus on family engagement and volunteers; 

  • Works on re-registration activities in collaboration with school leadership and national teams;

  • Provides individualized attention and support to students and Learning Coaches identified for training gaps or requested networking within the school community.

  • Provides interpretation/translation support for limited English proficient parents and families at school- and district-related meetings, trainings, and events including IEP and 504 meetings. . 

  • Offers guidance and information on school and community concerns to limited English proficient parents and district and school staff.

  • Provides translation and phone support for the Multilingual Learner Program during peak times to meet district, local school, and parent needs.

  • Conducts trainings, meetings, and workshops on topics that will assist limited English proficient parents in being active participants in the education of their children, including literacy initiatives.

  • Creates and implements school-wide activities to highlight the heritage, culture and languages of the multilingual learner population.

  • Attends and schedules meetings and events beyond the work day and on weekends to ensure parent participation.

  • Assists in the distribution of internal and external resources and supports for limited English proficient families.

  • Works collaboratively with local school staff and district ML colleagues to support the academic success and inclusion of the limited English proficient and immigrant students and families. 

  • Collaborates with staff from other programs and departments to ensure that the needs of limited English proficient parents are supported 

  • Completes WIDA test administrator training and assists with the execution, state-wide, of the ACCESS for ELLs testing for multilingual learners

  • Maintains and submits accurate records and documents for school, district, state, and federal reporting. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned by principal, immediate supervisor and district-level administration

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Two (2) years of experience work with families in a similar capacity, developing parent mentors/Learning Coaches, and/or facilitating community involvement OR

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Fluency in English and Spanish

  • Familiarity with online learning environment;

  • Strong organizations and time management skills;

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visit, etc.); Web proficiency;

  • Ability to travel 15% of the time;

  • Ability to clear required background check.

 

Preferred Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Human Services, Language or related field of study

  • Three (3) years of experience working with families in a similar capacity, developing parent mentors/parent training, and/or facilitating community involvement

Location

All staff must reside in the state of South Carolina.

 

This position is remote full-time with the following travel expectations:

  • Attend local student outing 1-2 times per semester

  • Attend in-person professional development 1-3 times per semester

  • Attend back-to-school professional development in July (1-3 consecutive days)

  • Participate in in-person student testing 

  • Additional details on travel will be provided in the interview process
