Airbnb is powered by our Host and Guest communities. Our team is responsible for building world class backend  merchandising systems that power data driven features and boost booking funnel.

As key individual contributors in this team, you will have the opportunities to drive team directions and partner with key teams across the company such as Search, listings discovery, booking and checkout etc.   

The Difference You Will Make:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated backend engineer who is looked up to as a backend and data engineering expert. We are at the early journey of building a company-wide user centric platform and products in a multi-year effort. As a key IC in this team, you will have the unique opportunity to drive multiple years of technical vision and architect a merchandising system which serves online and offline data merchandising insights from scratch. You will be in charge of the whole lifecycle of big yet ambiguous problem solving from prototyping to leading a group of talented engineers to deliver high quality work through multiple releases. 

A Typical Day: 

• Provide critical input and be able to influence technical direction. 

• Influence and collaborate with stakeholders to adopt team goals and roadmaps.

• Work with cross functional partners (product managers, MLEs, DS, Analytics etc) to design and deliver high-quality systems.

• Design and implement backend service to drive organic bookings and improve user experience 

• Lead efforts to architect, prototype, build and launch solutions for host or listing success.

• Mentor engineers on day to day basis to ensure quality and directions, both within and outside of the team 

Your Expertise:

• 6+ years of industry experience as backend engineer, inclusive MS or PhD in relevant fields.

• Experience in building and scaling high-quality and high-traffic products (or systems).

• Ability to evaluate technical approaches and design product solutions to solve real-world problems.

• Ability to drive alignment, manage projects and effectively collaborate with stakeholders.

• Mentorship to junior developers

• Experience working in data-heavy domains is a plus

Your Location:

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager.
