Job Summary: 

We are seeking a talented and motivated intern to join our team and assist in developing a small language model (SLM) to enhance our documentation search capabilities. This internship offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning while contributing to a practical application.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in collecting and preprocessing textual data from our documentation
• Collaborate with team members to design and implement a suitable transformer architecture for our language
• Contribute to the model training process, including initialization, defining objectives, and optimization
• Help evaluate and fine-tune the model for improved performance in documentation search tasks
• Explore and implement techniques for efficient model deployment and integration with existing systems
• Document processes, findings, and best practices throughout the development lifecycle

Requirements:

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field
• Strong programming skills, particularly in Python1
• Familiarity with machine learning concepts and NLP techniques
• Experience with machine learning libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn
• Basic understanding of transformer architectures and language models
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience with NLP projects or language model development
• Familiarity with tools like Hugging Face Transformers, spaCy, or NLTK4
• Knowledge of data preprocessing techniques for text data
• Understanding of model evaluation metrics and fine-tuning processes

Compensation Range Transparency : SAP believes the value of pay transparency contributes towards an honest and supportive culture and is a significant step toward demonstrating SAP’s commitment to pay equity. SAP provides the annualized compensation range inclusive of base salary and variable incentive target for the career level applicable to the posted role. The targeted combined range for this position is 15- 62(USD) USD. The actual amount to be offered to the successful candidate will be within that range, dependent upon the key aspects of each case which may include education, skills, experience, scope of the role, location, etc. as determined through the selection process. Any SAP variable incentive includes a targeted dollar amount and any actual payout amount is dependent on company and personal performance.
