The State of New Hampshire, Department of Health and Human Services, Division for Children, Youth, and Families has a full-time vacancy for Juvenile Probation & Parole Officer I-IV.

Summary:



JPPO I

To perform entry-level field work by providing support and being responsible for the supervision of offending juveniles. Under supervisory oversight prepares investigations reports and recommendations to the court and/or Juvenile Parole Board in matters of parole or administrative furlough as required. Upholds the vision and mission of the agency through utilizing the Practice Model theories, beliefs and principles in daily practice.

JPPO II

To conduct investigations and make recommendations as directed by the court and Juvenile Parole Board and to supervise juveniles placed on conditional release or parole. Upholds the vision and mission of the agency through utilizing the Practice Model theories, beliefs and principles in daily practice.

JPPO III

To serve as an officer of the court regarding juveniles placed on conditional release or parole, investigating and reporting recommendations to the court as required. Upholds the vision and mission of the agency through utilizing the Practice Model theories, beliefs and principles in daily practice.

JPPO IV

To serve as an officer of the court regarding juveniles placed on conditional release or parole, investigating and reporting recommendations to the court as required. To provide leadership in the juvenile probation and parole program and to directly supervise staff as assigned. Upholds the vision and mission of the agency through utilizing the Practice Model theories, beliefs and principles in daily practice.


YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.




JPPO I MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 2.5 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in criminal justice, criminology, behavioral science, counseling, cultural anthropology, education, human services, psychology, social work, sociology, or a related field.

License/Certification: Valid driver’s license and access to transportation

Other Requirements:

1. Must be able to travel to District Offices and/or other work locations up to 50 miles away from the assigned work location for temporary assignment or reassignment to ensure continuity of service to clients

2. May be transferred to an assessment unit within the State to support the Division’s implementation and sustainability of Juvenile Justice Transformation legislation

3. Must be able to tele-work from home or other sites as assigned

4. Must be able to work overtime or non-traditional hours as assigned to meet the needs of youth and families

For promotion from the 21-1090 Miscellaneous Community and Social Service Specialists-3 job title to the 21-1090 Miscellaneous Community and Social Service Specialists-4 job title, the eligibility requirements in Personnel Rule 303.08 Broad Group Level Advancement must be satisfied, as well as the following criteria:

1. Must receive a satisfactory performance evaluation and be free of discipline, pursuant to Personnel Rule 1003.01, for one (1) year immediately prior to promotion

2. Must be up to date with all case records

3. Must receive a performance-based recommendation from the immediate Supervisor and approval from the Juvenile Justice Services Field Administrator or designee

4. Must have fulfilled all training requirements for the 21-1090 Miscellaneous Community and Social Service Specialists-4 position, including the successful completion of Core Training, the formal mentor program, and a minimum of 30 hours of in-service training

JPPO II MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience: Associate's degree and 2 years of experience OR equivalent combination of 4 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be criminal justice, criminology, behavioral science, counseling, cultural anthropology, education, human services, psychology, social work, sociology, or a related field, with at least 2 years working with adults and/or juveniles in the criminal justice or social work field.

License/Certification: Valid driver’s license and access to transportation

Supervise pre-adjudicated and adjudicated Delinquents and CHINS as ordered by the court; minors on administrative release or on parole and minors from other states under the interstate compact on juveniles.

Monitor the parent(s) compliance with court orders and ensure that appropriate school districts are joined as parties.

Promptly report to the court, violations of court orders and conditions that are required by statute or the court or which are serious enough to warrant consideration by the court; attend court hearings on violations and provide information to the court as to the basis for the violation along with recommendations for appropriate action.

Develop parole supervision plans with recommendations on the conditions and terms of parole for presentation to and approval by the Juvenile Parole Board.

Monitor and review cases to ensure that Solution Based community supervision and placement case plans are developed with the youth and the family to ensure that objectives and tasks are being achieved and that court orders are being complied with in accordance with State and Federal Statute.

Under supervisory direction has the authority to arrest and takes into custody any juvenile who is found violating any law, or who is reasonably believed to be a fugitive from justice, or whose circumstances are such as to endanger his/her person or welfare, unless immediate action is taken.

Complete all required documentation, including case plans, court reports and all necessary Bridges documentation of case related activities.

Work under direct supervision of a supervisor and receive regularly scheduled weekly supervision.

Complete all Core Training requirements according to policy including formal mentor program and 30 hours of in-service training annually.
